Sopore, Dec 10 (KNO): Administration has identified two sites to shift street vendors from the main carriageways of Sopore town to streamline the traffic.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the street vendors will be moved to the identified sites so that their livelihood is protected.
In an addendum to a previous traffic order, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore, S.A. Raina directed that passenger buses operating from Bus Adda Sopore towards Bandipora to use the bypass and not to ply through the main town.
The order further stated that buses operating for Srinagar will also avoid moving through Sopore town and shall adopt the bypass, while on return they will enter the town only through Chankhan via the Shahdargah route.
Raina said the removal of street vendors from the main roads is “on cards” and that two key locations have been earmarked to rehabilitate them in an organised manner so that their income is not hit.
“We are looking at every angle to ensure no one is affected and at the same time there is smooth traffic movement in the town", he said, adding that the plan is part of wider decongestion measures already underway in Sopore.
The ADC stressed that traffic improvement requires “joint efforts” of the administration, traders and vendors and appealed to people to cooperate with the relocation exercise.
He said the street vending associations have been asked to ensure only registered vendors operate from the designated spots so that the system remains regulated and genuine beneficiaries are accommodated—(KNO)
